How to add commission partners to your itineraries

Typically, travel agents earn a commission (usually a percentage) from service providers such as tour operators, hotels, cruise lines and airlines. The service provider pays the travel agent commission for selling their product.

To use the commission functionality, you first needs to create a commission partners by following the steps in this article. Once you have set up your commission partners in your account settings, the scenarios below will serve as useful guides.

Example: Scenario 1

  • The base cost for Wild Tour's (the 'Tour 0perator') itinerary items: £3,000

  • Wild Tour adds a 15% markup (13.04% margin) on the base cost: £450

  • The package sale price to the traveller client: £3,450

  • Wild Tour pays 10% commission to Mediterranean Travels (the 'Commission Partner')

1. If Wild Tour adds costs/client prices to each itinerary card in TripMapper:

  1. Click on the applicable proposal.

  2. Click 'Manage' at the top of the screen.

  3. Click the 'Costs' tab.

  4. The itinerary cost(£), markup(£), margin(%) and price(£) from the separate itinerary cards are summarised in the top table:

  1. In the 'Partner' section, select 'Mediterranean Travels' as the commission partner from the dropdown menu (the partners in the dropdown will be those who you created in your account settings).

  1. Below the 'Partner' section, the bottom table shows:

    1. Total client price: £3,450

    2. Total commission (10%) paid out to Mediterranean Travels: £345

      [Revenue to Wild Tour after 10% commission: £3,450 - £345 = £3,105]

    3. Wild Tour's total profit margin: £3,105 - £3,000 = £105

    4. Wild Tour's margin after paying the 10% commission: 3.04%

Example: Scenario 2

  • The base cost for Wild Tour's (the 'Tour Operator') itinerary items: £3,000

  • Wild Tour adds a 15% markup (13.04% margin) on the base cost: £450

  • Wild Tour adds Champagne on arrival as an additional charge: £100

  • The package sale price to the traveller client: £3,550

  • Wild Tour pays 10% commission to Mediterranean Travels (the 'Commission Partner')

1. If Wild Tour adds costs/client prices to each itinerary card in TripMapper:

  1. Click on the applicable proposal.

  2. Click 'Manage' at the top of the screen.

  3. Click the 'Costs' tab.

  4. The itinerary cost(£), markup(£), margin(%) and price(£) from the separate itinerary cards are summarised in the top table:

  1. If you already have added default charge groups in your account settings, click 'Add default charge groups' to automatically add the charge groups. Otherwise, click 'Add Charge Group' to add a new charge group for this specific trip.

  1. I have added 1 additional charge group, Champagne, at a £100 cost.

You can 'exclude' the £100 champagne charge from the 10% partner commission and 'exclude' from your total margin calculation by using the applicable switches as shown below:

or 'include' the the £100 champagne charge from the 10% partner commission and 'exclude' from your total margin calculation by selecting the switiches shown below:

  1. In the 'Partner' section, select 'Mediterranean Travels' as the commission partner from the dropdown menu (the partners in the dropdown will be those who you created in your account settings).

  1. If you had 'excluded' the champagne charge from the 10% partner commission and 'excluded' from your total margin calculation, below the 'Partner' section, the bottom table will show:

    1. Total client price: £3,550

    2. Total commission (10%) paid out to Mediterranean Travels:

      1. 10% of £3,450 (£3,550 client price - £100 champagne charge = £345

    3. Wild Tour's total profit margin:

      • Revenue to Wild Tour after 10% commission: £3,550 (client price) - £345 (10% commission) = £3,205

      • £3,205 - £3,000 (base cost) - £100 (champagne charge) = £105

    4. Wild Tour's margin after paying the 10% commission: 2.96%

If you had 'included' the champagne charge in the 10% partner commission and 'excluded' from your total margin calculation, below the 'Partner' section, the bottom table will show:

  1. Total client price: £3,550

  2. Total commission (10%) paid out to Mediterranean Travels: £355

  3. Wild Tour's total profit margin:

    1. Revenue to Wild Tour after 10% commission: £3,550 (client price) - £355 (10% commission) = £3,195

    2. £3,195 - £3,000 (base cost) - £100 (champagne charge) = £95

  4. Wild Tour's margin after paying the 10% commission: 2.68%
